Mission Statement

Providing Intervention and Enabling Services throughout North Devon. Working alongside schools and professionals to offer children and families an alternative approach to learning and activities.

Supporting families with respite and signposting to helpful organisations.

Working to overcome the barriers of anxiety. With a 1:1 approach, full attention is given to the needs of each child.

Giving a voice to the vulnerable and supporting with behavioral issues.

We hope to inspire the children we work with to progress with education as well as building confidence in their abilities and skills.

We liaise frequently with families and professionals to address sensitive issues, provide support and discuss progress and achievements.

With a focus on building confidence and self-esteem, education and social interaction, we aim to support children to improve school attendance, engage in activities and integrate into positive peer groups.

Utilising the local community, we take every opportunity to incorporate learning. Whether it’s in the forest or in nature looking for fractals, learning about eco systems, or buying breakfast and working on math. Demonstrating the practical application of school subjects shows the importance of understanding them.

We aim to identify the skillsets and abilities of the children we work with. Engaging in education play and activities to find their strengths and fulfil their potential.

Working predominantly with autistic/adhd children, together, with the families and local authorities, we hope to overcome the barriers that young people face today.

With access to a wide range of activities and educational facilities, we create a safe environment to guide, inspire and encourage learning.

Identifying the routines, communication methods and predominant profiles helps us to tailor sessions for children with challenging difficulties. Building relationships with key workers and family members can help to improve the learning experience of the young person.

Sharing knowledge with families and professionals, recording progression and developments and including the child in the decision making process is key to ensuring the child continues to move forward.

We encourage school attendance as well as look at options for short courses with local learning centres.  Work experience can be arranged including discussions around specific qualifications necessary for the field of employment.

Assisting young people when transitioning from school to college or to employment. We help to create CVs, cover letters, assist with job searches and apprenticeship or college applications.

Social interaction and integration.

Building confidence and self-esteem, engaging in activities or joining classes and sports clubs, encouraging children to integrate with positive peer groups

Using activities to break down barriers, improve communication and open up dialogue can be an effective way of creating a positive, productive and professional relationship with young people.

With these methods, used as a stepping stone to progress with education, coping techniques, and positive outlets for stress and frustration, young people are able to set and achieve more realistic goals.

An alternative approach to allow children to find their way of learning and retaining information, regaining control and receiving deserved praise is a great way to build confidence.

At JIES, we encourage children to explore and express their thoughts without fear of judgment, encouraging them to work within specific boundaries when necessary and use self-discipline and practiced techniques to regulate behavior.
